Izgubljeni u tamnoj noći, kupac i prodavac.

Magija predstave „Just Say It” leži u njenoj otvorenosti za interpretaciju i učitavanje emocija kao osnove ljudskosti kroz pokret.

cURATOR’S statement

One of the most significant contemporary plays, "In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields" written by the French writer Bernard-Marie Coltes, seems demanding and incomprehensible at first glance, especially imagining it on stage. However, despite the philosophical aspect of the text, the discussion on alienation and violence defines a clear narative: the Buyer and the Dealer meet in a dark part of the city in order to exchange unknown goods. In their confrontation, which leads to the examination of the limits of human fears and insecurities, the notion of exchange does not only have the mentioned literal meaning - the viewer is constantly witnessing an extremely tense, exciting and moving verbal conflict between the two characters. Although the origin, the lifestyle of the characters and even what they trade are unknown to us, the Buyer and the Dealer tell us quite enough about who they are. The meeting of two strangers and their conversation about restrained desires reveals a recognizable human vulnerability, as well as the individual's need to find love and emotional security.

The performance of the piece "In the Solitude of the Cotton Fields”, directed by Maciej Jaszczyński, encapsulates the story in a manner different than expected. Using modern technologies, the director manages to place this insane pseudo-plot in the present day and to draw a parallel with the problems of modern society.

Director’s statement

Lost in the dark night, the customer and the dealer. It's not clear what they want to buy nor what they want to sell. No one knows who they are or how they got here, yet something has drawn them together and won't let them part. They say they have a desire, a desire that cannot be bought or sold. A desire that can never be realized or even spoken, yet they devote an hour of their lives to being with each other, next to each other, but they don't dare even have a moment of silence. They constantly throw out words that paradoxically make sense. Nevertheless, what hides underneath, what they are both aware of, induces states of momentary oblivion and openness to the other person. However, there will be no happy ending.

curator’s statement

The performance "Just Say It" delves, through movement, into powerful emotions, fears and everything that life brings. It exudes a high degree of harmony between the dance expression, music and stage design in such a way that in composition, these elements lead to the awakening of emotions and fears that are at the core of human existence and from which we (un)consciously flee - fear of connection, fear of death, escape from oneself, and destiny. The strength of this performance lies in its ability to trigger a cascade of thoughts and feelings in the audience that can be part of both the collective and the individual experience of the world and life.

director’s statement

"Just Say It" is an impressive dance allegory of life, a journey where the beginning and the end overlap and intertwine. The journey is depicted through the beauty of movement, a dance language characterized by harmony, poeticism and rhythm. The magic of the performance "Just Say It" lies in its openness to interpretation and the loading of emotions as the basis of humanity through movement.

Tagline  What is the cost of seeking for success?

curator’s statement

Is this the end or the beginning? Watching this play, we realize the fact that we constantly encounter successes and failures, and failure is just as important as success, if they exist at all. Or is this simply called - life?

director’s statement

Dimitris is an actor who is approaching the end of his theatrical studies, or a new beginning. Mitsos also had a dream which he accomplished. His lux toilet. But what happens after you accomplish everything? What is there to long for? Dimitris and Mitsos co-exist, bound to a climbing rope, sharing the need to talk. Nothing can make you stand at eye level except for your feet, and maybe your heart, but then you need a rope to keep you standing in those moments when your feet cannot keep going. That, however, does not mean that you won’t fall - falling is a blessing after all: you look at yourself from down below, just like when you were a little child.

dramaturge’s note

Life of luxury. Happiness. Restraints. Is there such a thing as self-realization? If yes, what is it? What can a person do when he/she succeeds in everything? Dimitris is writing his thesis and Mitsos is looking through his life’s diary searching for something. He does not know what he is looking for, but then again nobody knows until something is brought before him. Mitsos stumbles upon his work, his home, his partner and he stops wondering "how much this thing called life is worth". This question triggered a stage approach that is looking to untangle the rope that binds these people together - a climbing rope which restrains both the actor and the character and imposes communication while simultaneously widening the existing gap between them.

How much digging into our own memories, experiences and emotions is enough to reach the core - the source of inspiration? What if at the end of that tunnel there is still no light?
